Greenhouse Builders

So it's about 2 p.m., the greenhouse builders just got here and unloaded approximately 500 pieces! It's like something from Ikea. I am excited....

Greenhouse

The foundation for the greenhouse is in! Just have to plan the walkway and veggie beds. I hope they come next week, like they promised.

Potatoes

It's a miracle that I found any amidst all those weeds!
These will provide for a few meals.

Pumpkin Patch

This year's crop! There are ten altogether.
This one grew up the side of the garage, but got too heavy and the trellis broke!

It's a little early, but the leaves are already starting to wilt.
The yellow ones are now turning orange. And one plant turned out to be cucumbers!

More digging!

We had a trench dug in order to put in a row of hedges between the two properties. If I find any more stones I am going to cry!

Flower Bed

This is on the other side of the house, a flower bed, 6 x 1,5 meters. The neighbors changed their side (again) so I decided I should clean up mine and get out all the weeds. So after a week of digging, sifting, cleaning and refilling, I finally managed something acceptable. I put down a weed liner, it's supposed to keep them from coming back through. We shall see.

Still Gardening

Well I guess blogging is sort of like tending to your garden, if you don't give it the attention it needs, it will not grow. At least a blog doesn't grow weeds! I have been very busy though, will try to post some of my projects since it got cold and gray here again.

Here you can see that we dug up the foundation from two long gone garden sheds. The more I kept digging the more rocks and stones came out, until we ended up with 7 tons of them!

Handmade Paper Bowls

It's been pretty cold here the past few weeks, so I've been staying indoors alot keeping warm and making paper. Here are some of my lastest creations, all going to my friends shop "The Soapdish" to be used as gift baskets!

Happy Birthday

Hey little sis, welcome to the forties!

I remember sharing a room with you, but you were too small to play with. As we got older, you were still too small to share my thoughts with. Seems we keep getting closer the older we get, cause now I can tell you anything and you understand. We cry over the same things and don't have to explain why. I can call you and even if you're in a hurry, you take time to listen. We like the same music, the same clothes, the same food! I'm so glad we have each other. Love you, big sis

Valentines Day

Other girls get diamonds!

After

This is what was left after all was done. A pile of firewood that needs to be chopped and stacked and a pile of branches to be shredded.

Before

Am feeling kinda old today! We took out two trees and a row of overgrown hedges on Friday. My arms are killing me from using the branch cutters, although I suppose they are good for certain muscles :)

Wally (a.k.a. Walter, Wallace,Walpuppy)

This dog of ours is so funny! He got a haircut today. As you can see, he looks much better (and smells better too). When his hair is long he acts like a big goofball, but with short hair he has attitude (he's a little snooty!)

He wouldn't even look at me for the picture. He might be mad about the new do??

Impatient

Couldn't wait for it to get warm. Got bundled up, went out this morning and took out a section of fence connecting our garden with the new piece of property. On Friday we will remove the trees and hedges. It hurts to cut them down, but they are too close to one another and they have been neglected far too long by the prior owners.

How does your garden grow?

Ours has grown by 200 square meters as of yesterday! Oh the things I could do...a greenhouse, raised beds for the veggies, a berry patch with raspberries, blueberries, currants, gooseberries, blackberries etc. etc. Makes my mouth water thinking of all the yummy things I'll be making. But first there is going to be alot of work getting it prepared. Trees to cut, stumps and stones to remove. Now if it would only get a little warmer. I want to go out to play!

sunny days

you know the old saying "the grass is always greener" well I've been wishing lately that my grass was covered in snow. it's not going to happen! so, I will just enjoy this most amazing weather we are having and be happy exactly where I am right now. today I took advantage of the -not so scorching hot it makes you want to melt- sun and took my class outside for snack time. they love it when I change things up every once in a while. and so I will try to love the 'awwwww' moments in life and see the joy through their little eyes (even if it is just a snack outside)!
Gardening is about enjoying the smell of things growing in the soil, getting dirty without feeling guilty, and generally taking the time to soak up a little peace and serenity. ~Lindley Karstens, noproblemgarden.com

Keeping with the gardening theme at -12°C, I have decided to start my chili peppers today! They will be kept indoors until about April where they will then wander into the greenhouse.
